It's Great to be 8!

In our faith, when you turn 8 years old you have the choice to get baptized and become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Megan turned 8 on March 8, 2011 and she made the decision to get baptized. Her baptism was scheduled for Saturday, April 9th at 10:00 am. We had quite the week leading up to Saturday. Ryan's dad had suffered from a heart attack the Tuesday before. We weren't sure if Grandpa Joe would be able to make it to her baptism and Megan was okay knowing that. The first thing Grandpa said to her while in the hospital was that he was going to do everything he can to be at her baptism. We had made arrangements with the Stake Primary for our ward to be first to be baptized so that we could plan when Joe should arrive. Megan was so excited the morning of her baptism. We had asked one of her friends mom's to braid her hair because I am clueless. She graciously accepted and did a fantastic job. About 20 seconds after we walked into the church house, Megan froze and became super nervous. By the time we got her baptismal clothes and into the bathroom she was a wreck. Crying hysterically, she was nervous, she was scared, she kept crying that she didn't want to do this, that she can't do it. I have seen her nervous before, but this was unreal. I was so sad for her that of course I cried. Luckily, the kids getting baptized sit close to the front of the chapel with their dad or who is going to baptizing them. This was so perfect because Ryan can calm Megan down so much better than me. When it came time for the introduction of the kids getting baptized, I was worried. But luckily Ryan had enough time to calm her down and she went up to the stand and smiled. There was another boy from our ward that got baptized too and our Bishop usually has the girls go first, but Megan did not want to go first. I knew this so the Bishop had Mason go first. Our families were both so big that after Mason was finished their family left the room. This was perfect for Megan because now it was just her family. She was still a bit nervous, but she went right into the font and all was great! The very first thing she said to me when I handed her the towel, "Mom, I am so glad I did this!" My heart melted. Her dad and I were very proud of her decision and her choice to be baptized. She is such a great example of Christ-like love. We are grateful that our families made the sacrifices that they did to attend her baptism and support her.

A Heart Scare

On Tuesday, April 5th I was at work and in a meeting; nothing unusual. Well, I left my cell phone at my desk which normally is fine. A co-worker came into my meeting and said that my husband had called twice and said it was an emergency. First of all, Ryan rarely calls me during the day because he is busy working. So for him to call my office phone twice and for him to say it was an emergency to a co-worker I knew something was up. I instantly panicked and ran to my desk trying not to cry and trying not to think of all of the worst case scenarios. So I finally get on the phone with him and he tells me that his dad had just had a heart attack and the ambulance had taken him to the hospital. So scary! I told him I would hurry home and get Morgan because she was home with Grandpa at the time. At that point we didn't know a whole lot so we all played the waiting game. Thankfully Joe was able to get the care he needed right away and was able to get in and have his surgery complete after only two hours of being at the hospital. The doctors said he was lucky because he had two arteries blocked. Joe was weak for a few days, but was able to make it home from the hospital on Friday, April 8th. Thankfully, Joe is doing great. Since Morgan was at the house when the ambulance came, she has now become completely afraid of sirens. If she is outside playing and hears a siren, she will come running into the house crying and wanting to be held. We try to explain that the sirens aren't coming to our house and no one is hurt. After a little while she is calmed down and realizes things are okay. Hopefully she will out grow this fear one day.

Megan's 8th Birthday

Megan had a great 8th birthday in March. She was spoiled as usual, but she is a good kid. There are so many great things about Megan. She is a very loving girl. She is tenderhearted. She cares about everyone and their feelings. She is aware of those around her. She is a great big sister, and most of the time they get a long. She is a big help to me and I just love her to pieces. She decided that since turning 8 is special that she should get a friend party. Of course, we said okay, but that we would keep is simple. She decided to make crafts with her friends and of course have pizza and ice cream. I told her she could invite 10 friends, knowing that there are always a couple that can't make it. Well, everyone came except for one friend. I was a bit crazy by the time the party was over, but Megan had fun and all of her friends really liked making the crafts and taking them home with them.
