Saturday Afternoon

Megan and her cousin, Maddie, were playing one Saturday afternoon. They were bored and I couldn't give enough ideas of things to do so we made cupcakes with Megan's cupcake maker. Between you and me, the cupcakes are not so good - they are cooked in a microwave, but the girls like them.

Helping each other with sprinkles.

You can never have too many sprinkles.

The finished product!

Morgan got in on the action too...frosting please!

Yum-O!

CHEESE! (or chocolate in this case)

Oh, she loves the camera too!

Buddy Walk 2009

I took the girls to the Down Syndrome Buddy Walk a couple of weeks ago. Ryan's friend, Brandon, and his wife had a baby this summer that was diagnosed with DS. Special needs has always been close to our hearts in my family, so I thought it would be great to go support such a great cause. I also like to give my girls exposure to things that are a little different than what they are used to. They had some many fun things to do and it was HOT. There were so many great volunteers and patrons; it was a great atmosphere and a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Megan chose a cat for her face painting.

Megan fishing for her and Morgan. Morgan did not want to hold the pole - she was too busy with her cupcake!

When I am a Teenager...

The girls and I were at Target the other night and there were some teenagers there (of course). The 3 teenagers were acting pretty obnoxious and loud (of course). I told Megan, "When you are a teenager, please don't act like that." (I now know I am getting old). A few minutes later, Megan said, "When I am a teenager and can drive, I will still want you to drive me because I like you." I laughed a bit and then she said, "What? I am serious mom!"

Last night Megan was talking about when she got a cell phone her ring tone is going to be Hannah Montana or something like that. I then told her, "You know you will be at least 16 before you get a cell phone?" She then said, "I know. And when I am 16, I don't want a car because I want you to drive me!" I told her that I need to write that down so when she is 16 and begging for a car I can show her that she said she didn't want one!

You gotta love little girls growing up!

Big Girl

Megan has asked several times about getting her ears pierced. I have always told her that she could do it whenever she thought she was ready. She would say things like, "well, I am not ready yet." "How old were you?" Just different things. She woke up one morning and said, "mom, I am ready to get my ears pierced today." I honestly thought nothing of it because she has said this before and then backed out. She called her dad on the way to school and told him that she was going to get her ears pierced when I got home from work. When I was on my way home, I called Ryan and asked if Megan had said anything about it when he picked her up. He said she told him that I was taking her to get her ears pierced. Okay, this is new; she didn't forget about it. She was so excited when I got home. So, we went and got it done. She picked out her birthstone for her earrings. Then she got up in the chair, held onto the teddy bear the gal gave her. Then it was time for the piercing! The left ear was first. Megan did really well, although I could tell it hurt. She didn't cry until the gal doing it said, "You can cry if you want to, it's okay." Well, then she bawled. At this point I realize I am a horrible parent because I am still recording. I hurry and shut it off and then console her. She was pretty sure she wasn't going to get the other ear done, but she calmed down and we went for it. She was a trooper and is very proud of her ears. She can't wait to change them, however I am not excited about taking these ones out - I am afraid she won't let me put some back in! I am proud of her for going through with it and being so brave.

This is the before shot.

Right before...

After (and calmed down)

Finished!

The after shot!
